What Actually Is CrossFit?
If you look up the official definition, CrossFit is "constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement." But what does that actually mean for you on a Tuesday morning?
Functional Movement: We train your body for real life. Think squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and running. It’s the stuff your body was designed to do, meaning you’ll feel stronger playing with your kids, carrying the shopping, or hitting your weekend hobbies.
Constantly Varied: Say goodbye to boring gym routines. Every day is a completely different workout. You’ll never have to walk into a gym and figure out what to do—we handle all the programming for you.
High Intensity (At Your Pace): Intensity is where the results happen, but "high intensity" looks different for everyone. For an athlete, it might be a heavy barbell. For a beginner, it might be a light kettlebell or bodyweight. You choose your dial; we just help you turn it.
The Golden Rule: Everything is Scalable. You do not need to be fit to start CrossFit. You do CrossFit to get fit. Whether you haven't exercised in five years or you’re a seasoned athlete, every single workout we do can be modified to match your current fitness level, old injuries, and comfort zone.
What to Expect in Your First Class
Walking into a new gym can bring on some serious nerves. We get it. To take away the guesswork, here is exactly how a standard 60-minute class at CrossFit BS7 runs:
1. The Whiteboard Briefing (5 Mins) Class starts with everyone gathered around the whiteboard. The coach will walk through the workout, explain the goals for the day, and show you exactly how we can modify the movements for you.
2. The Warm-Up (10 Mins) We don’t just tell you to go jog on a treadmill. The coach guides the whole class through a tailored, dynamic warm-up to get your blood pumping and your joints ready for the specific movements of the day.
3. Skill & Technique Practice (15 Mins) Before any workout starts, we practice. The coach will demonstrate the movements step-by-step. They'll check your form, adjust your weights, and make sure you feel 100% confident and safe before the clock starts ticking.
4. The WOD - Workout of the Day (15-20 Mins) This is the main event. Music gets turned up, the timer starts, and everyone tackles the workout together. Everyone finishes at different times, using different weights, but everyone cheers each other on until the very last person crosses the line.
5. The Cool Down & High Fives (5 Mins) We finish with a group stretch and a bit of a catch-up. You’ll walk out the door with a massive sense of achievement (and probably a little bit sweaty).
